Financial Assistance

The cost of a college education may be a matter of concern for many students and their families, many of whom would not be able to attend St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University without financial assistance. Whether you are returning to college to complete a degree, would like to begin a new career or want to acquire new skills, St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University understands the unique financial concerns of our students. The Office of Student Financial Assistance will work with you to maximize the federal, state and institutional aid for which you are eligible. Our Philosophy

St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University students may be eligible for a variety of financial aid programs that help cover the cost of education. While students and their families have the primary responsibility for college expenses, St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University views this as a shared endeavor and works with students and families to help them locate the resources they need to meet their educational goals.

Our Process

The financial aid process, which is required for both new and returning students who wish to be considered for financial aid, can be complex. Our dedicated and knowledgeable team will work with you to investigate all your options and navigate steps in the process, including how to:

Eligibility

To be eligible for federal financial aid, a student must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • have a valid social security number
  • have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent such as a GED, or certificate of completion of home-study program approved by the student’s home state
  • maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress towards a degree or certificate in eligible program
  • be registered for Selective Service
  • not be in default on Federal Student Loans or have an overpayment on a federal and/or state grant
  • not be convicted for an illegal drug offense while receiving federal student aid
  • be enrolled or accepted as a regular student towards a degree or certificate in an eligible program

SVC at SHU Degree Students

Students enrolled in an associate degree program at St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University may be eligible for traditional sources of federal student aid to help cover the costs of tuition and fees.

SVC at SHU Certificate Students

Students enrolled in the following certificate programs at St. Vincent’s College at Sacred Heart University may be eligible for traditional sources of federal student aid:

  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Health Information Technology Coding

Other certificate programs at SVC at SHU are not eligible for federal, state or institutional financial aid. Students can apply for a credit-based private student loan (often referred to as an alternative education loan) to help finance their certificate program.

The University does not endorse or recommend the use of any particular alternative education loan; we instead encourage students to review the private loan programs available to them to determine which option best meets their personal financial needs.
