Accommodations Process

St. Vincent’s College students who are considering requesting accommodations must follow the steps below. Please note–appropriate accommodations are based on a student’s documented functional limitations in an academic setting.

Requesting Accommodations

  1. Complete the online request via the Accommodate Portal (log in with your student username and password)
  2. Upload required comprehensive documentation to your online request. Please see Documentation Guidelines for clarification and assistance. These documents can also be sent to the OSA via mail, fax or email; see Contact below. If you have an attention disorder, psychological or other medical condition for which you are currently being treated and require accommodations, please have your treating physician or clinician complete the Disability Documentation Form.
  3. Set up a meeting with the Accommodations Specialist or Assistant Director to discuss your request. Please let office staff know if you require accommodations for this meeting (large print, interpreter, captioning, access to accessible parking, etc).
  4. After meeting with an OSA staff member and receiving accommodations, it will be your responsibility to request accommodations at the start of each new semester, summer session or winter intersession (this includes study abroad opportunities!) It is the student’s responsibility to inform OSA staff of class changes during any semester.

Renewing Accommodations

Students who have received accommodations in a current or previous semester at St. Vincent’s College (you MUST have requested through the Accommodate process above) are required to follow directions below to request renewal of accommodations:

  1. Complete the online request via the Accommodate Portal (you will need your SHU username and password!)
  2. If you have new documentation to upload, please do so before requesting accommodations. Please be sure you have read and reviewed Documentation Guidelines. If you have an attention disorder, psychological or other medical condition for which you are currently being treated and require accommodations, please have your treating physician or clinician complete the Disability Documentation Form.
  3. If you are requesting the same accommodations as a current or prior semester, select:
  • Accommodations
  • Semester Request
  • Choose the semester you are requesting and click “Request Accommodation”
  • You will be brought to a new page and a list of approved accommodations will appear
  • Select the semester again
  • A list of your classes will appear on the right
  • Below your classes, choose, “Request all Accommodations”

Step 4: After meeting with an OSA staff member and receiving accommodations, it will be your responsibility to request accommodations at the start of each new semester, summer session or winter intersession (this includes study abroad opportunities!) It is the student’s responsibility to inform OSA staff of class changes during any semester.
